Welcome to the TuningEar support site!

TuningEar is all about training yourself to hear when two notes are (slightly) out of tune.
Of course, practice during ensemble play is the best way to learn it, but your fellow musicians are not always playing along. Worse yet, you might even not have your instrument with you! TuningEar will allow you to still train your ears.

If you have any questions or comments about the application, please send them to

TuningEar works by letting you hear two notes. It's up to you to decide whether they are in tune or not.

When you start the application you will be presented with a screen with 5 buttons:
mzl.ixpmocol

The buttons at the top are for playing the notes. Press a button to hear the note, press again the make it stop playing. For instruments that slowly fade out over time, the note will stop playing automatically.
The buttons at the bottom row are for your answer. If you think that „note A” and „note B” are in tune, press the „In Tune” button. If you think they are out of tune, select the appropriate button at the side.

Settings

In the tab bar below you can select the Settings icon to go to the Settings of the application:
mzl.aidfbhdo

The „Tuning” options lets you specify what tuning system you want to use while training. „Just intonation” is most natural, while the equal temperament setting resembles more the tuning of a piano.
The „difficulty” setting specifies how much the notes „A” and „B” are out of tune, if they are.
By enabling the „Use Intervals” option, you can select which note should be use for „note A”, for „note B” you can select which intervals are chosen.
For both notes you can also specify the instrument, this need not be the same.
